Joseph M. Forgione is an attorney at the Gioconda Law Group. Mr. Forgione currently focuses his practice on trademark and copyright counseling and he is admitted to practice law before the Bar of the State of New York and the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Mr. Forgione is also currently licensed by the New York Department of State Division of Licensing Services to conduct business as a licensed private investigator. He previously worked in the corporate legal department at CHANEL, where he participated in online and offline intellectual property enforcement.
Mr. Forgione is a member of the adjunct faculty at NEW YORK LAW SCHOOL, where he is serving as an adjunct professor of law and teaching the Fashion Law Practicum course offered in the Innovation Center for Law and Technology. In that role, he is currently researching and writing forthcoming scholarship to be published in the NEW YORK LAW SCHOOL LAW REVIEW, VOLUME 61, ISSUE 2. Mr. Forgione also directs the Fashion Law Initiative, a comprehensive fashion law program at New York Law School, and he serves as associate director of the Innovation Center for Law and Technology, where he manages an academic center focused on intellectual property, privacy, Internet, and technology law.
Mr. Forgione co-authored the chapter on anti-counterfeiting in the book titled INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OPERATIONS AND IMPLEMENTATION IN THE 21ST CENTURY CORPORATION, which is designed to provide insight into the contemporary issues facing senior decision-makers in their ownership and management of corporate intellectual property assets.
Mr. Forgione holds an LL.M. degree, Master of Laws in Intellectual Property Law, from BENJAMIN N. CARDOZO SCHOOL OF LAW. During that course of study, Mr. Forgione worked as an intern in the legal department at 7 JEANS and also as an extern in the legal department at TIME INC. for INSTYLE, REAL SIMPLE, THIS OLD HOUSE, and SPORTS ILLUSTRATED magazines.
Mr. Forgione also holds a J.D. from Cardozo, where he concentrated his legal education in Intellectual Property and Communications Law. During law school, Mr. Forgione worked as an intern in the legal department at KATE SPADE.
In addition to completing ongoing freelance work for various media outlets, Mr. Forgione has also worked as an intern at ESQUIRE, GOTHAM, GQ, HAMPTONS, LOS ANGELES CONFIDENTIAL, and SURFACE magazines, and he has a wide variety of published clips in his editorial portfolio.
A member of PHI BETA KAPPA, Mr. Forgione holds a B.A. cum laude with Honors in Sociology from HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY, where he studied Italian and Comparative Literature in Italy, and began his career in intellectual property law working as a clerk in the legal department at HBO.
Mr. Forgione is actively involved in several charitable and volunteer organizations, including COALITION FOR THE HOMELESS: FIRST STEP JOB TRAINING PROGRAM.
He regularly lectures at law schools on matters related to brand protection against counterfeiting in the fashion industry and spends countless hours outside of his classroom mentoring young attorneys and law students on matters relating to the fashion and the law.
